Moonlighting is generally considered a part-time job worked outside of the hours a person is at their regular jobs. U-Haul uses the term to apply to some of their remote customer service representatives and select other job titles.

According to reports, moonlighters are a special class of part-time employees who can work limited hours, have limited income, and are not entitled to benefits. However, more recent job listings on Indeed.com identify many moonlighter jobs paying $13-17 an hour with benefits, depending on the area.

Those hired as moonlighters can advance to positions as regular part-time and full-time employees.

What Does A Remote Worker Do At U-Haul?

Customer service agents and reservation agents are responsible for assisting customers with reservations and customer service. A moonlighter will also answer questions about U-Haul products, self-storage, and roadside assistance.

Moonlighters may work part-time or full-time depending on their desired schedule. Moonlighters will answer incoming calls back-to-back from customers all over the US and Canada.

All calls that come into the contact center at U-Haul are recorded and monitored. This can be used for training purposes for employees.

What Are The Requirements For U-Haul Work-From-Home Jobs?

  • You will need a reliable computer or laptop with Windows operating system, anti-virus software, and a high internet speed
  • A USB headset
  • Advisable to have a webcam to connect with your team members and build a strong connection, even while working remotely
  • Be at least 16 years old
  • Have a high school diploma or GED
  • Be self-motivated
  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Be able to provide an excellent customer service experience
  • Have a quiet and private work area (You would not be able to work on a public computer,)

What Is The Average Hourly Wage For A Moonlighter At U Haul?

The average hourly wage for a U-Haul Moonlighter may be as low as $7.50- $8.50 per hour. However, representatives can earn up to $15 if they book rentals. Positions are listed at much higher rates on sites like Indeed or Simply Hired.

Zippia reports that 18.8% of employees learn less than $25,000, 77% make between $25,000-$40,000, and 4% make between $40,000-60,000.
